In this episode, I interview Dr. Ron Beghetto. He is an associate professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut in the Neag School of Education. Dr. Beghetto is an international expert on creativity in educational settings. The focus of the interview is on creativity–specifically creativity in the common core classroom, which is a focus of a recent book he co-authored titled: Teaching for Creativity in the Common Core Classroom (http://goo.gl/IFQ4qi).
The interview begins with Dr. Beghetto discussing the impetus behind the writing of his new book. This discussed led to Dr. Beghetto describing common misconceptions that individuals have about creativity. He provided several examples about how to think about creativity in the classroom–along with how creativity fits with the common core. Dr. Beghetto describes a model of creativity that he and a colleague (Dr. James Kaufman) developed called the 4 C Model of Creativity. He describes how this model is a framework for thinking about creativity. Dr. Beghetto ends with advice that he has for teachers about integrating creativity into the common core.

Dr. Plucker is a international expert on creativity. He discusses a wide-range of ideas about creativity–what it is, how it can be fostered, and how technology factors into creativity. Dr. Plucker provides excellent insights and advice for instructors at all levels about how to help students reach their creative potential.
One of the key ideas that Dr. Plucker discusses is constraints. He described how putting constraints on ourselves (and on our students) can affect the creative process. Dr. Plucker ends the interview with advice for helping foster creativity.
